Optometrist

20 hours

Cycle: 20 hours per year (annual cycle)
Renewal: 30 November

Optometrists must complete at least 20 hours of CPD each registration year, including 5 interactive hours and no more than 5 non-clinical or non-scientific hours, and complete CPR training; scheduled medicines endorsement adds requirements.

Registration year: 1 December to 30 November; AHPRA registration renewal is 30 November.

Non-endorsed optometrists complete at least 20 hours of CPD each registration year, including 5 interactive hours, with no more than 5 non-clinical or non-scientific hours.

Category and topic requirements

Interactive CPD (minimum 5 hours): At least 5 hours must be interactive CPD with other practitioners.
Non-clinical or non-scientific CPD (maximum 5 hours): No more than 5 hours may be non-clinical or non-scientific CPD relevant to practice and patient management.

Standalone requirements

CPR training: Complete approved CPR training within the previous three registration periods, additional to the 20 CPD hours. Cadence: Within the previous three registration periods.

Caveats

Scheduled medicines endorsement requires an additional 10 endorsement-related CPD hours each registration period, including at least 2 additional interactive hours; the default non-endorsed profile does not calculate these totals.
The retired pre-December 2020 points-based biennial model is not used for new CPDKeep defaults.
